Much of this work is conducted by the School of Marine Science & Engineering, with the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Marine Biology, Marine Science and Civil & Coastal Engineering, and supported by state-of-the-art laboratories (including wave tanks), field equipment and ROVs, and a fleet of vessels (including a 14m research vessel Falcon Spirit). The University has recently completed a GBP 4.65m redevelopment of its waterfront facility. The new Marine Station provides modern teaching and research capabilities, including classrooms, a wet laboratory, aquarium and scientific dive facility.Plymouth University is unique in providing students the opportunity to undertake professional, HSE approved, SCUBA diver training and apply these skills to their academic studies. The School of Marine Science & Engineering is now seeking to appoint a full-time permanent Diving Instructor/Technical Specialist, based at the new Marine Station, to support academic diving operations for undergraduate, postgraduate, research and business engagement activities within the school.In this post you will provide instruction to, and assessment of student divers taking part in the HSE SCUBA course, along with supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students engaged in the academic application of diving and associated techniques. You will also be responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of all diving equipment and associated plant. As part of the position you will be expected to develop and maintain an electronic database to record routine planned maintenance and equipment repairs. You will have a background in commercial diving, marine science or engineering and appropriate qualifications and sufficient experience to allow you to act as an Instructor/Supervisor of diving activity under the Diving at Work Regulations and HSE diver training protocol.
