Student Computing Officer(Fixed term post) (IT21)




Category: Professional Support | Department: IT Services | Closing Date: 04 Dec 2014 | LSHTM is seeking a Student Computing Officer for IT support work within IT Services for a seven month period from December 2014 – 13/07/15.  You will log faults and queries from staff and students (using a dedicated helpdesk application), and resolve these as appropriate – the work can range from hardware and network failures to software installations.  You will carry out PC and laptop installations for staff, and support students in their use of the wireless network.  An important part of the job is monitoring the PC classrooms and printers for faults, and resolving any issues, as well as providing support for audio-visual equipment in classrooms and lecture theatres. As the first point of contact on the helpdesk you must have good customer service skills, preferably with some relevant experience in, for example, a retail or service environment. You must also be able to manage a busy workload, and take on a wide variety of tasks.  A basic understanding of Windows 7 is required but it will be just as important to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.  We offer you a friendly working environment in which you will gain considerable experience in various aspects of IT; PC and laptop hardware, Windows operating systems, software installations, networking (including wireless), telephony and video-conferencing. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a large IT Services team while receiving thorough training and development by your colleagues and team leader.  The ideal candidate would have recently graduated and be looking to acquire valuable work experience.
