The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join us at Leonardo in Edinburgh. Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.

As a Senior Project Manager you will be working on multiple strategically important projects within the Research & Technology Development team in the Advanced Targeting business in Edinburgh. The role involves leading and managing multiple early development EO/IR projects related to the next generation Tempest aircraft programme. Ensuring successful internal & external customer and business delivery is key. The role demands strong internal stakeholder engagement and strong external facing engagement with customers (Leonardo, Dstl, MoD).
Manage multiple EO/IR related projects to time, cost, quality and technical compliance.

Key project activities:

EO/IR EOTs - As part of the wider Tempest EOIR Project Management team, you will lead a multi-function project team focused on the design and development of an Electro-Optics Technology (EOTs) flight demonstrator.
Payload configurations will be assessed and down selected, taken through to design life cycle, safety of flight-testing, leading to on aircraft demonstration.
FCAS TDC aim is to demonstrate developed elements of unmanned combat air systems in order to provide greater navigation resilience in future contested environments. Including demo of our system on aircraft, data collect and analysis to further the technology for future EO/IR application deployment.
Electro-Optics Applied Research - A number of internal applied research projects and external knowledge transfer and sharing initiatives (Innovate UK KTP's) as well as PhD/Studentship funding.
Lead and demonstrate delivery of projects and work packages, to achieve / better the financial targets.
Ensure adherence to Leonardo's Lifecycle Management (LCM), as appropriate and tailored to suit.
Proactively monitor cost and schedule progress and lead the team effectively through planning, allocation and reporting of work in order to ensure successful delivery of the project and its objectives.
Anticipate, mitigate and manage dependencies, risks and synergies in support of increased business performance.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with all functions in order to influence, support and deliver project activities.

What we are looking for
Working knowledge of the Leonardo policies & practices in particular related to Life Cycle Management, Risk Management and Project Execution.
Experience or awareness of related functions such as Commercial, Procurement, Quality Assurance.
Exposure and experience in all aspects of project planning, scheduling, work package management and cost control.
Detailed understanding of financial controls and reports.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally
Pro-active with a "can do" attitude, striving for continuous improvement, effectiveness and efficiency and with a focus on achieving high performance against objectives.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workload and to work autonomously
Flexible and adaptable to change and adversity
Excellent problem solving skills and initiative with the ability to think laterally
Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and SAP functions related to Project execution, cost control and planning.
Typically degree qualified in a business or engineering discipline.
Typically meets the requirements for registration as a full member of the Association for Project Managers (APM)
