Job Introduction Cricket is the nation’s favourite summer sport. England men’s dramatic victory in this year’s Cricket World Cup (and the women’s triumph in 2018) thrust the game back into the national spotlight creating headlines on both the back and front pages.
The current Ashes series’ continues to stoke the interest of cricket fans across the country and only football is a more popular sport among The BBC’s online users and radio listeners.
From May 2020 the BBC will build on its long-standing radio and digital coverage of the sport, by becoming the free-to-air TV home of English Cricket. The package of rights acquired by the BBC will allow us to offer the audience comprehensive coverage including Live radio commentary of all International and Domestic cricket competitions, bespoke radio programmes and podcasts; digital clips and highlights of all International matches; plus BBC TV will broadcast almost 80 hours of cricket each summer; including highlights of all home Test matches and one day internationals, live coverage of England T20 matches, live women’s cricket and the ground-breaking new competition called The Hundred.
The BBC has three simple objectives for its cross-platform coverage of the sport:
To maximise the reach and impact of cricket To take the sport to new audiences To encourage more people to pick up a bat and ball With a stated ambition to reinvent coverage of cricket, we are looking to appoint a Producer who will work across all of our output and help deliver a continuity of approach and editorial direction for our TV Highlights, bespoke programming and podcasts.
In particular the Producer will help create content that will showcase the stories and characters from within the world of cricket and analyse the key moments across the sport in an innovative way that will delight passionate cricket fans across the country.

Role Responsibility The Producer will work alongside The Cricket Lead Executive, TMS Lead, TV Output Editor and independent production partner (TV Highlights) to plan our cricket coverage across the year and across platforms.
They will work closely with the On Air talent team across the year and in particular during the summer months to deliver the TV Highlights; working to the Independent Production Output Editor. The Producer will work the Creative Producer and Cricket Digital Lead to create features that will make an impact with a diverse audience and promote cricket awareness ahead of our Linear output.
During the Winter Season the Producer will work with the TMS Lead to devise a content plan, produced from Salford, which will support teams on location following the Winter Tours. This would include the production of live radio programmes, podcasts and digital content.
Content will be required to feed into and enhance Live Text Commentaries for BBC Sport and into 5 Live programmes.
Are you the right candidate? You should have a real passion, knowledge and understanding of cricket and have proven experience of working at high-profile events on live programming.
You will have experience of producing cricket content that analyses key events that influence the game and have a contact book that will give us access to the best cricket talent across the world.
You will have experience of dealing with high-profile presenters and pundits in a live programme environment.
You will build strong relationships with across a range of production units including the Independent Production Company, the Live Text and Digital teams and across Radio & TV Sport.
You should have the ambition to create and drive the content and tone of our programmes that equally delight and deliver something new to the passionate cricket fan but also be accessible and able to attract new audiences to our cricket coverage.
You will be adaptable and flexible and able to work across the BBC Sport portfolio
