Innovation Manager - Cell & Gene Therapies

The role of Innovation Manager is an influential position with a leading UK Biotech based in central London whose purpose is to accelerate the advancement of the Cell & Gene Therapy Sector by bridging the gap between research and commercialisation of these life changing therapies.
The purpose of the role is to identify early stage clinical research products where the expertise the company can bring through collaborative R&D projects that will ensure these life changing therapies progress to become investable propositions. The Innovation Manager will continue the development of existing and seek new relationships with academics, technology transfer offices, VC’s, UKRI, AMRC, knowledge transfer networks and industry. To identify potential prospects to collaborate with, initiate and then be a key part of the transactional process till completion by working closely with the relevant internal parties.
The Innovation Manager will lead the activities that ensure the development of therapies to investable propositions. This will be achieved by fostering a portfolio of proof of concept collaborations between the company and leading university groups and SME’s. With the concept that these projects will develop the pathways on how to overcome the problems linked with commercialising therapies. The Innovation Manager will also coordinate the distribution of information about the best practices developed that includes GMP manufacture, regulatory, IP, and reimbursement. You will work alongside UKRMP Hubs to build research agendas to support the emerging needs of the sector to identify gaps in the UK market to develop strategies to fill these using UK based or international collaborative efforts.
This is an influential role where you will develop the strategy for the role and work closely with the Director of BD and Transactions to then implement this using your expertise and network. To then grow this area in line with company aims as they continue to grow and impact on this rapidly developing sector.
Desired Skills and Competencies:
For this opportunity you will need to have at least a BSc in a relevant life science but a higher qualification such as an MSc or PhD would be advantageous to your application. You will need to have experience of working in a similar role previously where you have knowledge of R&D in the sector. That is complemented by understanding of Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, Grants and Funding and Horizon 2020. Additionally, you will have the ability to manage relationships with academic clinicians and commercial professionals. As well as experience of working in either academia or industry.

They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3. Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.
