Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
Due to growth we have a newly created vacancy for an R&D Laboratory Manager. This role is essential to manage the smooth day-to-day running of our sequencing lab, by supporting operation scale up, maintaining stocks and orders, and ensuring H&S requirements are met. The work will also involve execution of sample and library preparation for next generation sequencing.
Your day to day will be the maintenance and forecasting of laboratory stocks to enable uninterrupted activities in the lab. You’ll look after and improve documentation for process trackins (LIMS) and procedures (SOPs), run risk assessments, maintain the laboratory instrumentation and collaborate with the R&D team to optimise sequencing protocols and automate laboratory procedures. You’ll also support some lab activities such as sample preparation, next generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation and QC.
Skills & Experience for Success
We anticipate that the ideal candidate will have:
* Solid experience in NGS assay development and mid-throughput processing.
* Experience of laboratory management in a related field
You're also have a keen interest in cutting edge sequencing technologies, applied to clinical samples, have excellent organisational skills including documentation, attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
