STEM Coordinator

An exciting position has become available for a part-time STEM Coordinator based in Leicester. The successful candidate will work three days per week and earn £22,000 per annum pro rata.

This is a fixed term contract until 31st March 2023, with a possible extension if funding allows.

The post holder will be based at the offices in Leicester city but should be willing to travel if needed within the Hub region. On occasion there may be a requirement to attend meetings and training further afield. Expenses will be paid in accordance with the company guidelines.

The nature of the work may occasionally involve the post holder carrying duties outside of normal working hours. Overtime working is paid as time off in lieu.

Role Requirements

Qualified to degree level (or alternatively work experience relevant to the post)
Degree or work experience in a STEM related subject.
Experience and enthusiasm for working with young people aged 5-19 years.
Experience of creating and delivering activities and workshops to young people.
Interest and enthusiasm for STEM.
Some knowledge of the school STEM curriculum and education sector issues and the national STEM agenda.
Understanding of working with volunteers and business professionals.
Experience of working with teachers and schools.
Experience of managing or co-ordinating volunteers.
Ability to work to targets and work effectively and accurately under pressure.
Effective organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to use all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and if possible Publisher proficiently.
Experience of using a database.
Able to demonstrate persuasive and influential techniques to secure a successful outcome.
Team worker with the ability to work creatively on own initiative.
Willingness to learn new skills as required.
Successful applicants must have a current driving license, insurance cover for business purposes and be willing to use own vehicle.
Willingness to work outside normal hours and flexibility to work evenings and weekends with prior notice given.

Role Responsibilities

Organising and promoting STEM Clubs and Space CPD courses to secondary schools in Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.
Booking course facilitators, monitoring bookings and attendees and ensuring attendance.
Promoting the concept of STEM Clubs and supporting materials to schools and colleges and Helping establish new clubs and develop existing ones within the region.
Supporting a new STEM Clubs recognition scheme designed to support and motivate Club Leaders as well as improving the evidence base by providing independently assessed evidence of quality STEM Club provision.
Increase the number of STEM Ambassador volunteers from the space sector and recruit new employers within the Space sector to the STEM Ambassador Programme.
Work with other local and regional STEM network Partners including the Science Learning Partnerships, Local Enterprise Companies and Careers and Enterprise Company to publicise and promote the programmes.
Recording all data on the STEM Learning Digital Platform, producing a quarterly progress report on contract delivery and evaluation data as needed.
Carrying out other duties and reporting progress as required.
Any other reasonable requests in accordance with the position both within the team and/or supporting other projects where required.

Our client is a well-established careers education charity based in Leicester responsible for delivering a variety of STEM related activities to schools and colleges across the East Midlands. The role involves enthusing young people in schools and colleges to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths by identifying inspirational representatives from these sectors to share their careers with students, as well as identifying schools who could benefit from increased STEM activity.

This position plays a key part in their delivery of a high quality service and requires a creative approach to inspire young people.
