Senior Hardware Design Engineer

£55,000 - £65,000 + Benefits

STEM Source’s client is a world leader in space communication technology, the company is expanding its presence in the UK and is recruiting for a number of positions across its UK design centres.

This position offers the opportunity to join the Hardware Design team, within the Space design centre in the south of the UK (Just outside Camberley). They are designing their next generation of hardened sat modems to bring advanced processing capabilities to the satellite payload. As a member of this dynamic and highly motivated team you will have access to best in class design tools and will be working on leading edge process technologies.

Job Description

·Responsible throughout the product development lifecycle for the specification, design and validation of satellite comm platforms

·Detailed circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and simulation

·Directing in-house and 3rd party PCB layout design teams

·Deliver prototype and product quality manufacturing packages

·Supporting Hardware/Software/System integration, validation and qualification

Required Skills and Experience

·5+ years experience in a hardware product design role

·Design of complex, high speed circuits implemented as high density, multi-layer (10+) PCBs

·Experience of circuit and PCB design and simulation tools (. Allegro, ADS, SiWave, HFSS, CST)

Hands on experience in the design of products that contain the following:

·Microcontrollers / Digital Signal processors / FPGA / ASIC

·High speed digital Interfaces (. SerDes, ADC/DACs, etc)

·Power supplies and sensors

·In addition, specialist knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:

·High reliability system design (Space, Military, Automotive, etc)

·RF design

·DC/DC power supply design

·Verilog/VHDL for developing board/power/clock/etc management components

·Developing ASIC prototyping systems using FPGAs

·Knowledge of environmental, thermal, safety and EMI/EMC standards

·Practical use of scripting languages Tcl/Python/Perl
