The roleWe're on the hunt for an experienced developer to join our engineering team.
Increase your chances of an interview by reading the following overview of this role before making an application.
You’ll be writing PHP code to transition Mumsnet to a new microservices architecture based on Laravel / ’s a really interesting time for engineering at Mumsnet as we’re rebuilding our platforms from the ground up.
We’re moving from Java & Rails monoliths to microservices in PHP/Laravel and we’re pushing lots of functionality into the front end using Alpine and Livewire.
Behind the scenes we’re moving to AWS, running code either serverless or in Docker containers.
Our mobile apps are native iOS / Android builds which we will be replatforming with ReactNative.
We’re developing machine learning models using Python and love agile, TDD and experiment with hackdays and PoC’s.
We also believe it’s great to be continuously learning and improving our skills, that’s why we dedicate Friday afternoons to personal You’ll Be Doing Developing and supporting our platform.
You’ll be designing systems, writing code and getting features into production.
Working with product managers to assess requirements / feature designs and come up with technical solutions that fit within our overall technical stack.
Delivering top quality software.
You’ll ensure all code is secure, stable, thoroughly tested and fit for release.
Peer reviewing and quality checking the work of other developers.
We believe in creating top quality software, that’s why all of our developers are involved in the review process.
Helping junior members of the team solve problems through pair programming.
Writing technical specs and developer documentation.
Planning development work.
We’re agile and use a light Kanban process to keep admin to a minimum.
You’ll write the tickets and set the delivery dates for the software you are creating.
Continuing to develop your coding abilities and learn new skills.
We’re committed to learning and development through pair programming and dedicated learning time.
RequirementsWhat we’re looking for You should have good experience of developing web based platforms.
You will have built entire systems from the ground up and worked at senior developer level previously.
A good understanding of object oriented programming and related design patterns.
We believe in the SOLID design principles and are committed to Test Driven Development.
A meticulous and careful developer who’s committed to delivering high quality software, well engineered, well documented and bug free.
A critical thinker with great analytical and diagnostic skills able to jump into problems, find the root cause and provide sustainable solutions.
A passion for technology, our team love working with tech and we want someone equally passionate.
Experience of AWS Devops, Circle CI, Docker, Microservices and high traffic websites would be a bonus.

This role reports into the CTO.
We’re currently all home working but once we return to the office we’ll embrace flexibility and remote working to the max.
You’ll only be required to be in the office two to three days a week (although you’ll be able to come in more often if you wish).
We’ll also have monthly all-hands sessions with socials.
This role is envisaged as full-time but we are happy to consider flexible options for the right Benefits Pension Mumsnet has a workplace pension scheme with Royal London.
