The Principal Engineer - Engineering Services guides the function to implement and maintain processes and standards that enable the programme and engineering groups to deliver new products within a robust and controlled product creation framework.
Our client is an advanced manufacturer of ultra lightweight and efficent passenger vehicles for the global market.
Department Function: Provision a robust product creation system, with processes, standards and controls, that ensure vehicle programmes and engineering functions have a framework and the support to deliver new products and fulfil the target objectives.
Role Function: Manage the engineering services function to provide, maintain and deploy processes, standards and resources to enable stakeholders to deliver new product programmes via the product creation system.
Timing: Plan process and resources implementation to support the requirements of the engineering programmes and the expansion of the engineering department.
Finance: Define specific functional requirements, raise funding requests and track spend within budget.
Process & Standards: Core responsibility for the evaluation, creation, registration and maintenance of existing and new engineering processes and standards commensurate with continuous evolution of the R&D function to meet the present and future product strategy. Assure conformance to QMS standards and support auditing requirements.
Engineering Issues/Concerns: Guide and support the concerns coordinator to facilitate and monitor the engineering concerns system, consistent across all programme teams, reporting status and assure progression to support programme QCD.
Engineering Releasing/Change Control: Lead the function to operate the release system and support all programmes to raise, track and effect the engineering release process throughout all phases of a programme, reporting issues and status to programme and engineering commodity groups.
Bill of Material: Guide the BoM controller and release analysts to assure correct pedigree of information is contained and change control is captured via a robust releasing and engineering processes.
PLM & ERP: Represent engineering as a key stakeholder to ensure that interfaces and information flow required for both product life-cycle management and enterprise resource planning are robustly captured throughout the implementation and evolution of the platforms.
Development Training: Plan and provision any departmental training requirements to support the deployment of systems and processes within engineering.
IPR: Provision and monitor the intellectual property rights process implementation is consistent across all programmes and supports the business objectives.
Prototype Build: Ensure the function complements the prototype group in delivery of prototype and pre-production builds by ensuring process readiness and BoM pedigree
Degree level education in an engineering field and/or Diploma and relevant experience as listed below:

Business AdministrationEssential Skills:
Minimum of 5 years recent experience in a core engineering function or programme role
Robust knowledge of product development process, and the core activities through a new product programme
Conversant with PLM and ERP systems as a provider, user or customer
Experience in generating and maintaining engineering standards and documentation
Pro-active approach to progressing work streams, identifying issues and proposing solutions and decisions
Experience leading others, either as direct reports or cross functionally
Strong communication skills to interact with all departments, using a variety of written and verbal mediums
Proficient in interpreting both technical and commercial information
Ability to work in a start up environment, recognise the opportunity to add value, including the generation of appropriate processes and standards from previous experience and knowledge harvested
Competent user of all office software commensurate with use in engineering servicesAdditional Skills:
Knowledge of quality management systems, processes and procedures, and auditing requirements
Previous role within a commodity (component) or attribute (testing) engineering department
Knowledge of CAD creation or viewing platforms
