Environmental Quality Officer A client of mine in London is looking for an Environmental Quality Officer to join their team for a period of 6 months, From small basement excavations to large-scale re-developments the industrial past of the area means potentially contaminated soil and polluted water courses have to be carefully identified and addressed. As well as reviewing data and carrying out a range of duties to fulfil statutory obligations, you will advise the Planning Department on potential land contamination risks and ensure appropriate measures are taken - all with the goal of putting our communities first. Role Purpose To achieve compliance with all statutory and non-statutory requirements that come within the functional responsibility of the post, and to undertake other duties associated with the substantive role, as may be required from time to time to meet the needs of the service. To achieve all team objectives, improve community well-being and inclusion, and provide value for money and accessible services, that meet the diverse needs of all residents - 'putting our communities first'. To provide a high quality, customer focused, and safe living environment for residents, businesses and the local community. Qualification and Experience Bachelor's degree relevant to Contaminated Land (. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or equivalent) A minimum of 2 years' professional experience in undertaking contaminated land project work including Preliminary Risk Assessments, Site Investigation Schemes, Qualitative Risk Assessments, Quantitative Risk Assessments, Remediation Strategies and Verification Works Skills and Experience Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning guidance and legislation and experience with reviewing planning applications and addressing potential impacts on land quality. Detailed knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and guidance including Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, The Contaminated Land Regulations and the Environmental Damage (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2009. Understanding of the duties and powers this legislation places on the council. A thorough understanding of conceptual site models; experience reviewing preliminary risk assessments and intrusive site investigations; and knowledge of quantitative risk assessments, the design and implementation of typical remedial methods/treatments and their verification. Experience of using a GIS based database and quantitative risk assessment modelling, such as Environment Agency P20, CLEA, RBCA and SNIFFER. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and to be able to communicate complex themes in technical and non-technical terms, both orally and in writing, concisely with a variety of different audiences and have the ability to contribute to corporate issues within the organisation. Numerate and well organised and be able to analyse and interpret complex data and seek solutions to technical challenges. Excellent IT skills. A commitment to the equal opportunities policy and the ability to understand and implement the policy in relation to the job responsibilities. At least 2 years' experience addressing the satisfaction of requirements (. planning conditions) on the relevant large scale major developments/projects for preliminary risk assessments, site investigation schemes, quantitative risk assessments, remediation strategies and verification Please note this role falls inside IR35.
