Have you worked within a commercial R&D setting? If so, then this role could be for you. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Cell & Molecular Scientist to join our R&D Cell Engineering team based in our site in Cambridge. As a Cell & Molecular Scientist, you will be responsible for contributing to R&D’s activities primarily in the development of newly engineered host cell lines and expression vectors for the production of therapeutic recombinant proteins. This role will require you to perform key project work that will allow Lonza R&D to fulfil its obligations in Complex Proteins projects. Key Responsibilities – Cell & Molecular Scientist, R&D * Responsibility for contributing to the delivery of new and improved expression systems or services, primarily using Lonza’s CHOK1SV-based hosts under the direction of senior scientists * Evaluation of CHOK1SV host derived cell lines in scaled down fed-batch culture models * Understanding and execution of projects aligned to improve bottom line Business unit’s results, working closely not only within the R&D Cell Engineering group and other relevant R&D groups but also with the relevant Business Development teams * The execution and delivery of technical solutions whilst meeting industry demands for the manufacture of therapeutic recombinant proteins helping to maintain Lonza as a lead supplier * Understanding and execution of projects aligned to improve bottom line Business unit’s results, working closely not only within the R&D Cell Engineering group and other relevant R&D groups but also with the relevant Business Development teams * The execution and delivery of technical solutions for the manufacture of therapeutic recombinant proteins helping to maintain Lonza as a lead supplier Skills and experience required Essential * BSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology * Practical experience within R&D in an industrial setting * A good R&D technological background in molecular biology and relevant cell culture techniques with the aim of developing of manipulating mammalian expression systems (hosts, vectors and processes) * Able to demonstrate contribution to technology development projects, with a preference for experience of implementing new technologies that can be transferred from research environment to a GMP environment * Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce good quality information and records under the direction of the project lead * The ability to work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein (in particular with R&D Process Development and R&D Microbial) * Actively keep abreast of relevant academic literature (e.g., in the field of expression technologies) Desirable * Experience of scaled down fed-batch culture models (e.g. Ambr15 V2 – Nova Flex 2 system or similar) * Good working knowledge of statistics, expertise in design of experiments/multivariate techniques * Knowledge of FACS techniques * Basic protein chemistry/analytical techniques (HPLC, electrophoresis, immunoassays etc.) * Familiarity with modern genomics and next generation sequencing technologies would be an advantage Please note that this role require some weekend work (1 out of 4) If this is something you are interested in, please apply ASAP. “We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working (including Part Time and Job Share).
