Seven Medical are seeking a Consultant Haematologist in the Carmarthen area.

The role:

The post holder will be expected to work in general haematology and be able to manage malignant and non-malignant haematology, coagulation, transfusion and haemoglobinopathy patients. Following appointment, the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to take on additional management or teaching roles and/or cultivate sub-specialist interests, to complement the existing strengths of the department.

Clinical Commitments:

Provision of a clinical and laboratory haematology service. Other regular commitments include a weekly morphology session, MDT meeting and time for clinic preparation / administration, chemotherapy prescribing, planning and review of patients on treatment.

Education and Training:

Applicants should hold FRCPath / MRCPath, MRCP and be registered with a CCST, or eligible to do so. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

Emergency Cover for Colleagues:

In addition to providing emergency cover for the absent consultant colleague, it is expected that the consultant(s) providing cover will also provide clinical supervision to junior staff caring for elective inpatients and day cases. External Locum cover will not normally be provided.

Clinical Audit & Research:

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the design and completion of audit projects leading to improvements in practice and the development of Clinical Quality Standards. Current opportunities for research and audit are likely to be significantly enhanced in the future.

Administration:

The appointee will undertake administrative duties associated with the running of his or her clinical work.

Leadership and Management:

The appointee will be responsible for the leadership of his or her team as appropriate within the specialty. Specific leadership responsibilities for areas of the service will be agreed on an individual basis and will be detailed in the appointee's job plan.

The appointee is expected to be responsible to the Associate Medical Director for the effective and efficient use of resources under his or her control, to contribute to the planning and development of the service and to participate in directorate / departmental meetings.

Professional Performance:

It is a requirement that if the employee has concerns about the professional performance of a member of the medical staff, they have a duty to speak to the person concerned. If the matter is potentially serious, or satisfaction is not obtained with the direct approach, such concerns should be discussed with the Associate Medical Director, if satisfaction is again not obtained, concerns should be discussed with the Medical Director.

Staff and office:

The appointee will have office accommodation, secretarial support, access to a dedicated PC and the Internet.

Qualifications:

Medical degree and Fully Registered with GMC

Eligible for inclusion on GMC's specialist register to take up appointment or within six months of gaining CCT

Compliance: GMC Registered

Travel: Ability to commute to and from work independently.

Hours: Full-time
