We are pleased to be offering a newly created Medical Laboratory Technician role in Cellular Pathology. They will support our friendly team to provide the best possible service to patients across the region. Cellular Pathology is a busy department, it receives around 35000 histopathology and non-gynaecological requests each year and performs over 100000 tests. It is essential that the candidate has significant experience of working in Cellular Pathology.
The role primarily involves working within the histopathology section of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be working alongside Biomedical Scientists and Pathologists; the ability to work well in a team is of paramount importance. The successful candidate will be required to have good communication and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure. They will be expected to provide training and support for the MLA team, trainee biomedical scientists and associate practitioners in their area. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a willingness to improve processes within the lab and contribute to the continual improvement of the department.
Good IT skills are a requirement for this post, as is the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. Duties will include: checking of details on request forms and samples, recording patient details on the laboratory computer system, recording sample descriptions at dissection, embedding tissue samples and performing microtomy. They will assist the office team and Pathologists in preparing for MDT meetings.
Continuing education is encouraged and we support CPD. The department is approved for training by the IBMS/HCPC and is UKAS accredited to ISO15189:2012.
Working hours are 37.5 hours per week between 8.00 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.£18,813.00 – £20,795 per annum
