Marshall Aerospace & Defence Group require a System Safety Engineer to work within their Cambridge based Engineering Safety team. The successful candidate will be able to work proficiently as both an individual and as a team player, be enthusiastic, proactive, resourceful and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
This position reports directly to the Safety Manager; responsibilities include:
- Producing System Safety Assessments and Safety Cases
- Providing system safety guidance to engineering staff
- Ensuring safety outputs conform to company and regulatory policy
- Liaison with regulatory/certifying bodies
- Chair appropriate safety committees, boards and meetings
- Promoting safety awareness throughout the design development lifecycle
- Promoting a safety culture within the Marshall organisation
- Co-ordinating the safety effort and supervising teams for assigned projects
- Advising the Safety Manager and Project Engineering Lead on all safety related matters
Essential: Applicants must have a good knowledge of the design development and safety management lifecycles and associated system safety engineering processes; have a good appreciation of system safety assessments and the safety case philosophy; be familiar with risk and goal based approaches and practitioner of safety analysis techniques including FHA, CCA and FTA. Must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships in order to deliver the responsibilities of the role.
Desirable: Ideally candidates will have a degree or equivalent in an aerospace engineering discipline with proven experience in the safety and certification of civilian and military aircraft; be familiar with air domain regulations and guidance including CS25, Def Stan 00-56 and ARP4761; have experience in GSN, hazard logs and safety tools, as well as broad knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft office software. It would advantageous to have experience of the Defence domain and hold membership of a related professional engineering body. Preferably also have experience and/or qualification in Human Factors engineering and Environmental engineering.
Degree Level qualified in a related engineering subject or completed equivalent apprenticeship with relevant work experience.
