Purpose of Position To take responsibility and assist the Management in securing and sustaining the home for the residents, and to promote a caring environment through the highest standards of professional practice to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents. To assist the Management in ensuring that each resident receives appropriate care to his or her individual needs. To assist the Management in ensuring that the home is run as efficiently as possible without putting at risk the care of residents. To assist the Management in ensuring that all required records, care plans and medication records are maintained and that these records retain to a high degree of accuracy. To act as the senior member of care staff on duty. Responsibilities To work at front of house alongside team members in an efficient and approachable manner To familiarise yourself with written care plans, Health & Safety information all policies and procedures in the Home To take ownership of your shift and reflect on your own work performance To plan your shift ensuring you allow time to complete all the requirements with diligence and quality To lead by example, demonstrating personal enthusiasm by explaining how things are done correctly and creating a sense of common purpose as the shift lead To supervise staff members in all aspects of care to ensure they carry out their duties to the highest possible standards To ensure a detailed handover is taken/given at the end of each shift To demonstrate a calm, controlled demeanour to the residents and staff To address staff members when their work of conduct is not being demonstrated according to company policy To support the key worker system, care plans and reviews for a number of residents ensuring continuity of care To assist the Manager/ Deputy Manager in areas of staff training as requested To assist in ensuring the home is able to meet the personal needs of all residents To assist residents with their personal care needs through direct and hands-on care to include washing, showering, dressing and toilet needs as indicated in their care plans or as directed by the Manager/ Deputy Manager To ensure residents are socially presentable in appearance at all times, ensuring their choices are upheld To ensure residents bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable to include beds to be made and changed and empty/clean commodes 16. To set tables and trays, serving and clearing of meals, help residents with eating who need help, prepare light meals and wash up To assist residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence, help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment as directed by the Manager To administer medication as required by individual’s care plans To inspect laundries and ensure residents clothes are mended when required To consistently seek opportunities to interact with residents to support in the promotion of mental and physical activities of residents To encourage the residents in the taking of decisions in matters which affect their quality of life To respond to resident’s feedback with openness and sincerity, ensuring the residents view have been taken seriously and acted upon appropriately To treat staff members, residents, relatives and visitors with respect at all times To participate in the development of activities for residents in which they can join and which will enhance their quality of life To ensure the Cook of the home provides good nutritious and healthy food to residents at all times To answer emergency call bells, the door and telephone, take messages and greet visitors when required To assist in ensuring that all new starters receive induction training on the first day of employment To attend and participate in staff and residents meetings and training as and when required To ensure the appropriate provision for care is provided for residents who are temporally unwell, needing bed care and those critically ill To ensure that the proper procedures are followed in the event of the death of a resident and that the deceased resident’s privacy and dignity continue to be maintained To report any concerns immediately to the Manager/ Deputy Manager To respect the confidentiality of the residents and the home at all times To undertake any other duties as and when required by the Manager/ Deputy Manager To support the Manager / Deputy Manager with internal audits when asked To ensure daily care notes are recorded in a timely accurate manner on each shift To complete all training relevant to your role and other training as required by the Home Manager Working hours: – for a long day or – and – (42 hours per week) Pay rate £ per hour Experience required: Some experience of medication administration Have a kind, patient and caring attitude IT skills as they have a computerised care planning system in place Experience of keeping detailed care records up to date and maintained What can you expect?
