Reed are currently working with a highly regarded public sector organisation to recruit a Financial Analyst for an initial 3 month contract.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of corporate financial requirements throughout the financial cycle – budget setting, forecasting and final accounts. They will also effectively support the organisations 151 Officer through the provision of high quality financial advice to Members, the Directorate Leadership, Corporate leadership Teams.

Key responsibilities to support the Finance Manager to:

  • Provide medium and long term financial and activity modelling to support business decision making.

  • Identify and analyse trends in spending and unit costs, benchmarking them against relevant comparators.

  • Take nationally produced trend and comparison information and place it within the organisations Context.

  • Support the Commissioning functions in the completion of analysis to inform contract management, market position statements, market analysis and the development of future strategies and tenders.

  • To support the completion of all annual financial returns, ensuring that they are completed with a strong understanding of how the data will be used and following the latest statistical release guidance notes (excluding the statutory accounts).

  • Produce briefings, analysis, and recommendations from the national benchmarking produced from those statistical returns.

  • Use the data available to:

  • Analyse trends

  • Produce scenario analysis about future spending, costs and plans based on local and national intelligence

  • Inform market analysis as directed by the commissioners

  • To support the team in understanding cost drivers and the potential impacts of changes

  • To develop self-service data sets which will support the operational aspects of the business and support to understand quickly their activity and unit cost information

  • To develop data sets and analysis to support the commissioning dashboard and to support market position statements, as well as other key pieces of work

  • To identify new research which could help model future cost impacts and to identify what that means

  • To contribute to the development of the Medium Term Financial Strategy

  • To work on the development of the cost models to support inflationary increases, tenders and service design

  • Any other appropriate duties as and when required.

Key Criteria:

  • Someone with Children's Services background or CCG/NHS or local government experience/Public Sector Experience  background would be ideal as the service users may need health insurance too.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Qualified Accountant
