Our public sector client are recruiting for a Research Officer on a temporary basis for an 8 month interim contract, with the possibility to extend. The position is based in Edinburgh but given the current restrictions, colleagues are currently working from home. This is a full-time post, but will consider applications seeking part-time work, with a competitive salary depending on experience.

Due to the nature of this role, a basic disclosure is required issued within the last 12 months or applicants must be willing to apply.

As Research Officer, you will provide research support and analysis to the Principle Research Officer as part of the clients work plan, and other tasks required.

Roles and Responsibilities
In-house support on these projects will be available from the Principal Research Officer, but candidates must have experience of both quantitative and qualitative research.
Prepare and undertake detailed analysis of current Scottish practice on sentence discounting to help to provide an evidence base from which a draft guideline can be constructed, combining analysis of SCTS provided data in conjunction with the Management Information Analysis Team, analysis of court records and stakeholder engagement.
Prepare and undertake detailed analysis of current Scottish practice on sexual offences, combining analysis of SCTS provided data in conjunction with the Management Information Analysis Team, analysis of court records and stakeholder engagement.
Prepare and undertake detailed analysis of current Scottish practice on domestic abuse, combining analysis of SCTS provided data in conjunction with the Management Information Analysis Team, analysis of court records and stakeholder engagement.
Support the clients research on other topics, potentially including domestic abuse and death by driving offences.
Additional ad hoc research support duties.
Contribute to policy development work on an ad hoc basis.
Essential Criteria
Undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience.
Research based postgraduate qualification or equivalent research experience.
Experience of both quantitative and qualitative research.
Desirable Criteria
3+ years' research experience.
Knowledge of or experience of the Scottish criminal justice system.
Experience interviewing high-status respondents.
Experience of research within the criminal justice system.
Experience contributing to policy making decisions
