Job Description

Job objectives and responsibilities

·         Promote a positive QHSE culture through LiveSafe

·         Provide QHSE advice and guidance to the business

·         Support all the operating business within your area of responsibility through proactive intervention

·         Responsible for assisting management to ensure that Mitie operations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

·         Ensuring the Health of those who could be affected by our activities is not compromised

·         Implementing the integrated business management system; ensuring a robust and efficient system is maintained, which complies with the requirements of the business and third-party quality, health, safety and environmental accreditations.

·         Identifying and minimising the risk of accidents to persons, property or the environment.

·         Supporting all parts of the QHSE function when required including investigations, meetings, audits and training as a minimum to ensure that the QHSE function across Group is efficient and pragmatic as possible.

·         Ensure a healthy and engaging relationship with other QHSE team members across the function

·         Follow Group and company policies and procedures always;

·         Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment (this includes feeding back on Procedures and back up the Group chain as well as the performance of the frontline teams).

·         Identify & implement strategies to reduce risk for Mitie companies and our clients.

·         Provide assurance through audit

·         Maintain an up to date knowledge of legislation and codes of practice applicable to the company’s business.

·         Maintain an up to date knowledge and understanding of Mitie’s policies, procedures and processes.

·         Assist operational managers with the identification and development of practical and effective safe working practices.

·         Provide advice and guidance to operational managers and employees on QHSE matters.

Main duties

·         Ensure operational managers of the company are aware of their legal and company responsibilities.

·         Carry out assessments that are outside the competence of Operational managers ie Significant Risk, COSHH, DSE and other assessments.

·         Investigate and manage all QHSE documentation relating to accidents and incidents, potential and actual insurance claims including timely upload of information and events to the online system.

·         Assist in tender compilations and contract mobilisations to ensure all QHSE matters have been appropriately considered and controlled.

·         Work with the Director of QHSE to develop and implement QHSE strategies to meet divisional and group objectives and be an ambassador for the team in promting these strategies to the business.

·         Produce QHSE reports as requested by the Director of QHSE within the requested timeframes.

·         Attend Regional and National meetings as required to represent the QHSE agenda.

·         In conjunction with the QHSE Director establish and maintain the Regional QHSE forums to enable engagement and communication with employees.

·         Where required in consultation with line manager liaise with relevant enforcing authorities.

·         Lead and motivate the regional teams ensuring that QHSE is embedded at all levels inline with the Mitie values.

·         Be proactive in identifying own performance and development opportunities.  Attend performance appraisals and work to agreed personal improvement and development plans.

·         Attend relevant training courses as part of personal development needs and meeting changing business needs.

·         Represent the Director of QHSE as required in their absence.

·         Any other reasonable “ad hoc” duties as required by the needs of the business.

Qualifications

·         Represent  QHSE Senior Manager as required in their absence.

·         Any other reasonable “ad hoc” duties as required by the needs of the business.

·         Good standard of written English.

·         Understanding of food safety and HACCP – where applicable to your business

·         Good verbal communication skills.

·         Computer literate (Word, XL Spread sheets).

·         Able to work unsupervised and on own initiative.

·         NEBOSH Certificate /equivalent or above.

·         Environmental Management.

·         Experience of industrial work & work at heights.

·         Experience of Integrated Facilities Management sector, in particular Hard or Soft Services where applicable

·         Grad IOSH working towards towards CMIOSH

·         Full UK driving licence.

·         Experience of multi-site, multi-discipline organisations.

·         Detailed knowledge of risk assessment and management.

·         Work in a commercial, client-facing environment.

·         Ability to manage meetings.

·         Able to deliver training on a range of subjects to varying abilities.

·         Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

·         Able to work as part of a team.

·         Diplomatic and personable.

·         Good management skills.

·         Flexible approach to work patterns and working away or travelling where required

Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Health and Safety responsibilities

·         Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times;

·         Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment;

·         Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received;

·         Report any issues or training needs to your  Line manager and /or  via your divisional incident reporting system;
