Train to be a LGV Driver with Conwy Council
Gwytherin, Conwy, Wales
Permanent (Full time)
Road to Logistics is a Community Interest Company established with Government backing, to tackle the UK Driver Shortage.
We are offering individuals who are currently out of work or claiming Universal Credit, the opportunity to train to be a HGV Driver, with a guaranteed interview with one of our logistics partners.
The training and test will all be paid for, so all we need from you is a clean UK driving licence, and commitment to the programme.
We are proud to be partnering with Conwy Council, who are looking for drivers to train to drive their waste disposal vehicles. These roles mean that successful applicants will train to achieve a Cat C license.
These roles are ideal for parents, or those with commitments in the evening, as the working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am until 14:55.
The role is varied and involves:
- Driving waste vehicle around set route each day
- Working closely with, and supervision of 2 waste collectors
- Health and Safety
- Sometimes assisting with collections.
- Customer service - interacting with the public and representing the Council
This role is fairly manual so you need to be relatively fit and happy to do a physical role. Although the job includes some supervisory duties, you do not have to have had previous management experience. We are looking for people with the right personality and motivation that are happy to learn and develop into the role.
Gaining a HGV licence usually costs around £3k so this is a unique opportunity to gain a new qualification with no cost implication for you. The Road to Logistics course is a 5 week programme that will take you from car license to Category C and includes the Driver CPC qualification, Health and Safety Qualification and some employability and sector awareness training.
Driving is a really rewarding job. No two days are the same and you will be interacting with a large range of customers, representing your organisation and ensuring the safe and timely collection of waste.
Logistics is a fantastic sector to work in, with lots of opportunities for progression once you have your foot on the first rung of the ladder. It is also a booming industry so there are plenty of roles and crucially during these difficult times, lots of job security.
- Full, valid UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 points.
- Currently claiming Universal Credit or a form of benefit
- Not currently on any other DWP scheme such as Kickstart or Restart (contracted provision)
- Physically able to do a fairly manual role
Once you have applied, one of our team will be in touch to discuss your application, and if applicable, you will be asked to attend an Information Day on October 12th, with Road to Logistics and Conwy Council to find out more about the training course and the jobs on offer.
