An exciting opportunity to join npower at such a significant time for the energy industry. We are currently looking for an experienced Solicitor to join our Legal department on a Permanent basis. The location of this role can be flexible, with base locations in our Solihull and Swindon offices.
Working in an Agile environment and benefit of working from home, you’ll be providing (or manage the provision of) high-quality, relevant and timely advice on legal matters. You’ll be passionate about getting things done to ensure we deliver to our customers in line with our legal obligations.
This role has a wide-ranging brief to support strategically important areas of npower’s retail business, picking up a wide range of work but primarily focusing on providing support to npower Business Solutions’ customer facing team, both for supply and metering contracts and the energy solutions space, where various contracts are offered to help large business customers make the most of the growing flexibility in the energy market, including demand side response, complex metering, private wire arrangements and power purchase agreements.
Npower Business Solutions
npower Business Solutions provides energy supply and metering services to business consumers ranging from microbusinesses to some of the largest corporate and industrial consumers in Great Britain. In addition, it provides end to end energy solutions to larger customers, including demand side response, energy management and the purchase of on-site generation.
The npower Business Energy Legal team is responsible for providing legal advice on all matters coming out of the business to business segments within npower. It also provides legal support to npower’s retail energy management team, which manages the route to market for all energy and renewables certificates required by the whole retail business. The work done by the Business Energy Legal team is varied and complex, and includes negotiating and drafting high value supply, power purchase and energy management agreements with customers, and procurement and broker contract with third parties (and providing advice on the interpretation of the same); managing disputes resolution processes; providing support to internal teams interpretation of relevant regulations; advising on the sale and purchase of renewable certificates; advising on various route to market agreements (including ISDAs) and all the associated credit support arrangements.
Skills and experience
To be successful, you must be/have the following:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister or non-UK equivalent.
- Relevant legal skills and knowledge required to meet key role accountabilities the demands of the role.
- Ability to work independently in a high pressure role with excellent time management skills
- Ability to communicate and apply legal issues in a relevant, pragmatic and business focused way.
- Experience of working in or with clients engaged in a commercial, fast changing environment. Experience in a regulated environment or the downstream energy industry useful but not essential
- Negotiation and influencing skills.
- Ability to establish effective internal and external relationships.
- Demonstrates awareness of business and company strategy and policy and regulatory and political environment.
