Job Description:**Developer**

Location: Chester Office Technology Team

Reporting to: Lead Developer

Role Purpose

Working within the wider Sykes Family, you will be sitting within our innovative and rapidly expanding Tech Team.

We arelooking for a developer to implement technical solutions that fulfil thecommercial ambitions of the business. You will be working with our bespokeproperty management platform, which enables us to onboard, support andmaintains the holiday cottages in our portfolio, as well as new platforms thatwe create to meet the dynamic needs of the market.

Role Outline

Youwill be working in a team of up to 6 developers, reporting to a lead developer.You will also be collaborating with a broader technology team of more thanthirty talented colleagues including Business Analysts, Test Engineers,Business Intelligence developers, as well as stakeholders outside of thedepartment, to deliver robust, commercially substantial projects.

As part of our team your responsibilies will be as followed:

  • Createwell crafted, scalable and resilient solutions used both by colleagues and thepublic
  • Own the delivery of software into the business
  • Participatein sprint planning to deliver regular iterations, and retrospectives to improveour processes
  • Promotesoftware development best practices
  • Collaboratewith business stakeholders to clarify ambiguous requirements and takingcorrective action for issues in production
  • Performexploratory work to investigate new technologies that we can leverage to solvebusiness problems, as well as sizing changes to our existing platform
  • Reviewing colleagues code submissions, coaching enhancements, encouraging standards and identifying bugs

Skill Requirements

Essential to have:

  • Atleast two years of development experience in a commercial setting
  • Experienceof PHP MVC frameworks such as Laravel
  • Object-OrientedCode and using SOLID principles
  • Afirm grasp of basic MySQL (Joins, Groups)
  • Experienceof foundational front end technology e.g. JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Experienceof Agile development methodologies e.g. Scrum

Nice to have:

  • Exposureto Continuous Delivery & Integration
  • Experienceof Test Driven Development
  • Experienceof JavaScript frameworks such as ReactJS or React Native
  • Frontend styling frameworks such as SASS & Bootstrap
  • Understandingof advanced MySQL (Stored Procedures)
  • UNIXCommand line
  • Experiencewith Amazon Web Services
  • Anunderstanding of microservice architectures and experience with REST APIs
  • Dockercontainers
