Job description About us Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) is a Division of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). CRD employs around 300 scientific, operational, policy and support staff. Our major role is as the UK regulatory authority delivering functions within EU legislation regulating chemicals, pesticides, biocides and detergents. Job Responsibilities Overview There is a Band 6 apprentice post in the Pesticides Delivery Team (approximately 20 non-technical members of staff). The team has a wide range of responsibilities, including the effective delivery of pesticides authorisation documentation and other tasks associated with the authorisation of pesticides for sale and use in the UK, and provision of support to a large team of regulatory scientists. There is a Band 6 apprentice post in the pesticide residues monitoring team in the Pesticides Policy Branch. This post directly supports delivery of the national pesticide residues in food monitoring programme, and is responsible for the day to day running of the sample collection scheme working closely with government inspectors, a market research organisation and several official laboratories. Examples of the Pesticides Delivery Team work you may be involved in include:- Management of the applications process for pesticides, preparing applications for consideration by technical staff, and issuing invoices to charge external companies for the service provided. This involves dealing with industry applicants by email and phone, and working with HSE’s IT systems. Preparing authorisation, amendment and withdrawal notices for plant protection products following applications from the pesticides industry and to implement decisions taken by HSE. Managing the pesticides authorisations issue process, including preparation of documents and loading onto the website, using Microsoft products and internal HSE systems. Input and management of CRD databases, and use of external databases and sources of information. Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study towards a related vocational qualification, assessed in the workplace by our training provider. As part of your apprenticeship you will need to gather work based evidence, whilst working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills as well as an understanding about the world of employment. All assessments and teaching will take place either on the job or at designated workshops, which may involve some travel to other HSE offices. Successful candidates will work towards an NVQ Level 2 in business Administration, which will take approximately 14 months to complete. We require individuals who are serious about working in a business administration role and can show the required determination to complete their apprenticeship programme.
