Scientist I - Scientific Quality Control Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire Salary: Competitive, DOE Contract: Full Time Permanent About the role – Scientist As a Scientist 1 at Abcam, you will be actively involved in ensuring that our antibodies meet our high-quality standards. Within Scientific Quality Control (SciQC), you will support new product development (NPD) of monoclonal antibodies, including generating and analyzing product validation data, as well as reviewing and addressing customer complaints. In addition, you will play an active part in resolving customer complaints and contribute to the knock out validation of our products. This post involves working closely with other members of the quality control teams across the globe. The ideal candidate will have research experience in the life sciences, be self-motivated, experienced in managing multiple tasks and working to deadlines. Significant experience with antibody-based techniques and a capacity to interpret scientific data is essential. About the Scientific Quality Control (SciQC) Team at Abcam The SciQC team works closely with other NPD teams, in-house manufacturing, Scientific Support as well as with the marketing team to ensure that our products help customers deliver high quality, publishable data. The SciQC team is recognized for their broad biological expertise and is crucial for interpreting multiple data sources to maintain our quality standards. Roles and responsibilities: Support testing of new antibodies to ensure specificity and improve validation data as required. Interpret customer data where they have encountered issues with our reagents and decide how these issues could be resolved. Ensure that appropriate testing conditions are used to evaluate specificity of antibodies. Take responsibility for the updating of tracking systems and datasheets and ensure any changes are documented and follow standard operating procedures. Contribute to other projects as necessary to help drive quality standards within Abcam. About you Our ideal candidate will be MSc educated in Biological Sciences to 2:1 standard or above. A PhD would be advantageous, although is not essential. You will have hands on knowledge of working with antibodies and a desire to move into a commercial environment. You will have solid experience of the practical and theoretical aspects of experiments involving antibodies, e.g. western blot (WB), flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, ELISAs or ChIP. You also have confidence in interpreting data across several applications and take actions to resolve a problem or to improve the product features. Previous experience within a commercial setting and/or project management experience would be an advantage, as would experience of working with academic collaborators and cross-cultural teams. You will be an enthusiastic team-player, with excellent communication skills, and able to work independently when required. Your focus will be on solving problems, as well as being consumer orientated. You must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines. Additionally, you will be an effective communicator, comfortable building relationships within the team and across the business.
